RIVERSIDE, Calif. – UC Riverside opened the 2022 spring schedule at the SRC Tennis Courts on Friday morning, falling 4-0 to Sacramento State. 

Tandems of Nolan McCaig/Ryan Huynh, Andreas Whelan/Daniel Velek and Justin Lamy/Joshua Roth opened the first doubles play of the 2022 season. Velek and Whelan returned to the Highlanders' lineup after sitting out last season while Lamy and Huynh made their collegiate debuts. Huynh played on court one with McCaig, falling 1-6. 

Roth went deep into his match on court three, falling 4-6, 4-6 while Velek's match on court two went unfinished. Also making his collegiate debut was Aarav Sane, going unfinished on court five despite putting up a fight with a 5-7, 4-5 score when the match was abandoned. 

UCR is back in action on Friday, January 28 against New Mexico State at the Fertitta Tennis Complex at UNLV.
