RIVERSIDE, Calif. – 47 Highlander student-athletes were named to the 2021 Big West Fall Academic All-Conference Team, it was announced Monday. Click here for the complete Big West release.
The sport-by-sport breakdown was as follows: 10 for Cross Country, 17 for Men's Soccer, 14 for Women's Soccer and six for Volleyball.
Men's Soccer's 17 honorees led the Big West, and the program had two repeats from the 2019 team in Issa Badawiya and Carlos Osorio-Castro. Women's Soccer nearly doubled its total from 2019 with Leigh Polson, Akari Shimizu and Alexis Vera earning repeat honors. Haley Cabrera and Suset Maldonado represented as repeats for Cross Country.
Among the 47 were two student-athletes in post-graduate programs: Cross Country's Cabrera (PhD - Evol, Eco & Organis Bio) and Men's Soccer's Leonardo Targia (MBA - Management).
