Highlanders Complete Day One at Golf Iconic Classic

LAS CRUCES, N.M. – Kate Villegas and Tiffany Le are each tied for 16th after 18 holes at the Golf Iconic Classic on Monday at the University Golf Course in Las Cruces, New Mexico.Â
Both carded identical 1-over 73 scores for the opening round with three birdies apiece.Â
Le went 1-under on two of her first four holes for a strong start before shooting for par on all but one hole on the back nine. The sophomore finished the day strong with a third and final birdie on a par-5 fourth hole.Â
Mylan Hirata is third in UCR's lineup with a 79, followed by Gabrielle Kiger (81) and Nicole Le (85). The entire Highlander lineup sits inside the top 75, including Maleyna Gregorio, who shot 83 and is tied for 75th as an individual competitor.Â
Villegas is tied atop the leaderboard stats with a 2.50 average on par 3 scoring.Â
UCR will start round two tomorrow morning from New Mexico before finishing out on Wednesday.Â
