Kate Villegas Named Big West Golfer of the Month

RIVERSIDE, Calif. – Kate Villegas has been named Big West Golfer of the Month, it was announced Wednesday afternoon by the Big West.Â
Villegas turned in a phenomenal September resume, placing second at the season-opening Hobble Creek Fall Classic before taking the individual win at the Coeur D'Alene Resort Collegiate Invitational later that week.Â
The junior averaged a flat 71.00 stroke average across both tournaments with four of her six rounds under par, including all three at Coeur D'Alene that began with a second consecutive 69 dating back to Hobble Creek.
Villegas started day two of Hobble Creek tied for eighth before making a six-spot jump into a runner-up finish across the final 18 holes. That weekend, she started day three at Coeur D'Alene tied for the top spot and held her own for the individual win. Her 139 after 36 holes at Coeur D'Alene is the sixth such score across two rounds in program history, and her three-round score of 209 is tied for the lowest in UCR history.Â
The Highlanders will finish their fall season on October 23, teeing off from the Boulder Creek Golf Course in Boulder City, Nevada for The Clash at Boulder Creek.Â
