LUBBOCK, Texas – UC Riverside put a bow on non-conference action on Thursday afternoon in the Lone Star State with a 59-38 loss to Texas Tech at United Supermarkets Arena in Lubbock, Texas. 

UCR started cold from the floor to start until Jordyn Marshall drilled a three to open the second quarter. Marshall made her return to her home state in the non-conference finale and logged five points with two rebounds and an assist. The Highlanders, after connecting on just two buckets in the first quarter, started the second going 4 of 7 from the field and held the Red Raiders scoreless for a two-minute period briefly before halftime. 

UC RIverside's defense held Texas Tech to just a 2-of-10 start from the field out of the break and stayed on its toes for the remainder of the afternoon, holding the Red Raiders to 43.8 percent shooting in the second half. On the other end of the floor, UCR outscored Texas Tech 10-9 in the third quarter after each side registered 13 points in the second. 

The Red Raiders pulled away in the fourth quarter after a valiant defensive effort from a Highlander team that has now held seven of its 10 opponents this season under 50 percent shooting. 

Anna Blount scored seven of her team-high 10 points in the second half. Blount made her first start since November 15 and added five rebounds in 25 minutes of action to lead UCR in scoring for the first time this season. Jordan Webster did a little of everything on Thursday with seven points, two rebounds, an assist and three steals. 

UC Riverside begins Big West play on Thursday, December 29 with a 7:00 p.m. contest against CSU Bakersfield at the Icardo Center on ESPN+.
