RIVERSIDE, Calif. - UC Riverside hosted Portland State in the second day of the Lynn Russell Miller Classic on Saturday afternoon at Amy S. Harrison Field, falling 7-1 to close out day two.
UCR produced six hits from six different batters on the day, including Haylee Kela and Moana Pisia, who have now reached base in each of the Highlanders' three games this season. Pisia represented the Highlanders' first hit of the game, while Kela doubled in the fourth inning.
Ally Troche saw her first plate appearance of the 2022 season, singling to left field on an 0-2 pitch in the third inning.
Marissa Burk led off the sixth inning with a double to left field before advancing to third on an errant throw that allowed Max Ortega to stretch a routine single into a free second base. Burk crossed home plate on Lauryn Garewal's sacrifice fly to center field.
Leah Brito tripled to right field in the seventh inning to spark a potential Highlander rally, but a fly out and strikeout on UCR's next two at-bats prevented any more damage.
UC Riverside will close out the Lynn Rusell Miller Classic on Sunday at 2:00 p.m. against Pacific. Tickets can be purchased at highlanderstickets.universitytickets.com, and students are free with a valid UCR ID.
