RIVERSIDE, Calif. - UC Riverside opened the home portion of the 2022 baseball schedule at the Riverside Sports Complex on Tuesday afternoon, falling 13-4 to Washington.
Jacob Shanks led the way in UCR's 2022 home debut, going 2 for 4 with two RBIs and two hits for his second multi-hit outing of the year. The Corona native delivered a game-tying double in the second inning down the right field line that plated Sean McLeod and Ely Stuart.
The double followed back-to-back first inning RBIs from Dylan Orick and Anthony Mata. Shanks and Mata have now recorded hits in each of the Highlanders' first four games.
Caleb Turner and Cruz Barrios each made their UCR home debuts on Tuesday in relief.
UC Riverside hits the road again this weekend for its second straight Pac-12 opponent, making the short trip to Los Angeles for a three-game series with UCLA from Jackie Robinson Stadium.
