SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - UC Riverside completed a season sweep of UC Santa Barbara on Thursday night with a 60-51 win at the UCSB Events Center behind 17 points from
Olivia West.
UCR has now won four straight overall and two straight over the Gauchos since 2017 and 2018.
UC Riverside drained seven threes in the first half and outworked the Gauchos 12-3 off the bench with 10 of those coming from
Jordan Webster to take a 32-26 lead into the break.
Jada Holland finished the half with five assists, as UCR assisted on nine of its 12 made field goals for the half and 11 of 20 for the game.
UCR hit seven of its nine threes in the first half, ending the night with a 50 percent clip from downtown. The Highlanders have now shot at least 50 percent from three twice in the last two weeks, their only such games of the season.
The Highlanders went on a 7-0 run at the start of the second quarter, but an upstart Gauchos squad would not allow UCR to continue its trend of holding an opponent under 10 points in a quarter.
UC Riverside had other ideas, cooling down Santa Barbara's offense and ultimately holding the Gauchos to 26 percent from the floor in the second half and 10 points in the paint across the final three quarters after the Gauchos scored 10 in the first quarter.
Offensively, UCR scored nine of its 10 second-chance points in the second half
UCR opened up a 13-point advantage in the fourth quarter, holding UC Santa Barbara scoreless for a stretch of two minutes and change after
Olivia West connected on her third triple of the night on the assist from
Mele Finau.
The Highlanders close out their road schedule on Saturday, February 26 when they travel to CSUN for a 2:00 p.m. tipoff. The game will be streamed live on ESPN+.
