LOS ANGELES, Calif. – The Highlanders of University of California, Riverside (UCR) wrapped up their three-game set against the UCLA Bruins with a scoreless first five innings thrown by starting pitcher
Tyler Frazier. Frazier's performance helped UC Riverside hold UCLA to just 2 runs in the game.
Frazier threw 5.2 innings, letting up one run on just two hits against the #21 Bruins, striking out four batters in the process. He was relieved by
Sergio Ramirez in the sixth inning. Ramirez threw one inning, before being relieved by
Jeremiah Priddy who finished out the bottom of the seventh, getting the Highlanders out of a pinch.
Corbin Barker threw the eighth inning, letting up one hit and striking out one, but held the Bruins at their 1-0 lead heading into the ninth inning.
Jacob Shanks doubled to get in scoring position to lead off the ninth inning. He quickly advanced to third on a wild pitch and was sent home to tie the game with a sacrifice fly by
Dylan Orick.
UC Riverside entered the bottom of the ninth tied 1-1 with the Bruins and battled to hold them and push extra innings for a chance to win. UCLA got on base with a single and advanced baserunners to scoring position with a stolen base, a walk and a balk. The next batter hit a sacrifice bunt to send home the game-winning run. The Highlanders fell to the Bruins with a final score of 2-1.
The Highlanders return to the inland empire and will host a four-game set with the Saint Mary College Gaels, beginning on Friday, March 4 at 6 PM.
