
Women’s Golf Completes Day One at Big West Championship

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. – UC Riverside finished in third after 72 holes at the Big West Women's Championship on Sunday at the San Luis Obispo Country Club.

Kate Villegas is tied for sixth and Tiffany Le is tied for third

UC Riverside teed off at 7:30 a.m. in group one with Hawaii and host Cal Poly and is tied for sixth as a team.Â

Villegas was 1-under at the turn thanks to a pair of birdies on par 4s. The sophomore bumped up a spot on the leaderboard into a tie for second with three holes remaining and finished her first round with a 2-over 74.Â

Tiffany Le came out of the shotgun start with a bogey and three-over on the third hole but settled in with pars on the rest of the front nine to make the turn at just three over. Le saw more success on the back nine with two birdies and seven pars – including a crucial 1-under on 17 – to finish her first Big West Championship round at 1-over 73.Â

Le averaged a 3.90 on par 4s on Sunday, while Vanessa Betancourt averaged a 4.50 on par 5s.Â

UCR will continue with the second round on Monday morning from San Luis Obispo, teeing off in group three from 9:10 to 9:50.
