SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. – Three Highlanders finished in the top 10 at the Big West Championships at the San Luis Obispo Country Club, as UC Riverside capped off a historic three-day performance that ended with a third-place finish.
UCR entered Tuesday tied for fourth, but surged over the final 18 holes for third.
UCR's third-place finish is the program's highest finish since being runner up in 2017 when UCR hosted the event at the Oak Quarry Golf Club. This is the fifth time in the last six years UC Riverside has had an individual in the top five, and the first time in program history with two in the top five.
Kate Villegas shot a 76 in Tuesday's third round, finishing the Championship at 3-over 219 (74-69-76-219) in second.
Tiffany Le stormed back after a 79 on Monday to card a 2-under 72 on Tuesday, finishing tied for fourth (73-79-70-22).
Vanessa Betancourt tied for 10
th in the field at 15-over 231 (76-77-78-231), while
Nicole Le carded her lowest round of the tournament on Tuesday with a 78.
Villegas and Le earned All-Tournament distinction by way of finishing in the top five.
