RIVERSIDE, Calif. - UC Riverside split a doubleheader with Hawaii on Saturday to close out a three-game series, winning game one 3-2 before falling 7-1 in the series finale.
UCR jumped out to a 2-0 lead early in game one on Haylee Kela's two-run home run to left center, scoring Lauryn Garewal. Hawaii punched back with a pair of solo home runs of their own in the third and fourth innings.
Briza Blanco drew a walk as a pinch hitter and Taylor Burdette entered the game to run for Blanco. Nadia Witt then doubled and advanced on the throw, scoring Burdette for the series-tying run.
Chrys Hildebrand fanned nine batters in the first game of Saturday's doubleheader, making it 20 strikeouts for the senior on the weekend in two complete games.
Garewal was involved in the Highlanders' lone run of the game in game two, doubling to left in the fifth inning to bring home Nadia Witt.
UCR is back on the road next weekend with a three-game series at CSUN, starting with a doubleheader on Friday, April 22.
