Baseball Stays Hot with Midweek Win at LMU

RIVERSIDE, Calif. - UC Riverside kicked off its season-long seven game road trip on Tuesday with a 6-1 win at LMU on Tuesday at Page Stadium, effectively winning its third game in its last five overall.

The Highlanders' second consecutive midweek win was a story of continued success for emerging role players in UCR's second win over the Lions this season. UC Riverside scored a 3-1 win when LMU visited the Riverside Sports Complex on March 29.

Nathan Webb's return tour to the UCR lineup continued with a season-high 3-for-3 evening, while Dylan Orick went 2 for 4 with two runs, including a solo shot in the second for either side's first run of the game.

Jacob Badawi's impressive freshman campaign wrote another chapter with a 2-for-5 night for the Chino Hills native. Badawi drove in a run on an RBI double in the top of the fifth that made it 2-1.

Andrez Melendrez' recent hot stretch continued on Tuesday. Melendrez earned his fourth two-hit outing in his last five. After starting the season hitless in three games, the Moreno Valley native has collected all nine of his hits on the season in the past seven days.

Eric Marrujo pitched six strong innings in his second straight midweek appearance, finishing with four strikeouts. Marrujo went the distance for the first time in his collegiate career last Tuesday in a 4-2 win over Utah Valley.

The Highlanders' bottom and top of the order combined for two runs on three hits in the fifth before Marrujo did his part with a 1-2-3 frame in the bottom half. The sophomore also retired the side in order in the sixth, making it six consecutive batters retired before Kyle Anderson entered in relief for his second save of the year.

UC Riverside's road trip continues on Friday with a 6:30 p.m. first pitch in the first of three at UC San Diego. All three games against the Tritons will be broadcast on ESPN+.
