
Track and Field Closes Regular Season at Steve Scott Invitational

IRVINE, Calif. - UC Riverside continued to put up big marks in two meets over the weekend, finishing the regular season at the UC Irvine Steve Scott Invitational at Anteater Stadium.Â
The Highlanders took three of the top seven spots at the men's 3000 steeplechase in Irvine, led by Noah Murasmith's event-winning 9:29.31. Murasmith set a new lifetime best and picked up a USATF U20 qualifier with the mark. Zach Cadima also set a new lifetime best at 9:42.43.Â
On the women's side, Norma Alvarez cracked sub-11:00 territory by the smallest of margins with a 10:59.18 that ranks sixth in program history.Â
UCR set numerous lifetime bests for the weekend, including Big West qualifying marks for Monea Jennings (14.56/100mH), George Cervanka (10.86/100m) and Jessica Onwu (11.49/triple jump).Â
Dauda Gbujama turned in a 44.85m in his first collegiate javelin, while Jacob McBeth won his 200m section with a season-best 22.63.
Reigning Big West Track Athlete of the Week Andrew Jackson clocked in at 1:51.87 in the 800m for fifth, while Samantha Velasquez led UCR in the women's 800m with 2:15.67. Martin Billings ran unattached in the men's 110m hurdles with a sixth-place 14.62 and took third in the 100m with a 10.50, also unattached. Both are lifetime bests.
With the regular season wrapped up, UCR now turns its attention to the Big West Championships in Davis from May 6 through the 14.Â
