
Track & Field Continues Success at Steve Scott Invitational

Distance crew, jumpers shine at UCI
IRVINE, Calif. - UC Riverside Track & Field returned to action this past weekend at the Steve Scott Invitational from UC Irvine.
Throwers got things going on Friday morning with Gabriella Colon Gipson (52.75m/173-00) and Addison Hackett (49.63m/162-10) in the women's hammer. Yuchua Yang (53.87m/176-09) threw the hammer on the men's side, and Owen Pennington (1.89m/6-02.25) represented UCR in the long jump.
Colon-Gipson cleared her season best by almost four meters, and Nyah Fields (5.79m/19-00.00) also collected a new season best in the long jump.
Kazu Kimura finished Friday's field events with his third long jump win of the season, posting a season-best 7.56m/24-09.75 for fifth all-time. Addae Ma'at (7.20m/23-07.50) also recorded a new outdoor long jump mark for his debut season.
Marissa Hehir tallied a new season best in the 3000s (11:12.69) before the distance crew popped off in Friday's nightcap.
Nicole Alfred (17:19.28) continued her impressive freshman campaign with a third consecutive season best and a sixth-place finish in the 5000m. Baptiste Garderes (14:37.36) followed it up with a new season best for UC Riverside, a third-place finish, and nearly 20 seconds shaved off his time.
Morgan Nygren (4:29.36) finished a hair short of the all-time top 10 in the 1500, but she and Isatu N'Diaye (4:33.14) still picked up top-15 finishes and personal bests to close day one.
Saturday kicked off with immediate fireworks, as UCR posted a school record in the women's 4x100m (44.75) and a new No. 4 all-time mark in the men's 4x100m (40.86).
Raykiyat Olukoju (11.63) and D'Lainey Nakamoto (11.71), half of the record-breaking relay, finished one and three, respectively, later on in the 100m. Nakamoto tied Kamea Hunter for third all-time with her mark.
Victoria Valenzuela (4:44.39) and Sophie Moser-Smith (4:46.74) joined the distance crew's new-top-mark party with personal bests in the 1500m on Saturday, and Taylor Oden improved her No. 8 all-time mark in the women's 100m hurdles (14.61).
Elena Mack set a new personal best in the 400m and Caleb Pascua (4:05.20) also dropped his 1500m time.
Derek Pangilinan (10.77) and Derrick Brown (11.47) improved their 100m times while Maxwell Jefferson (11.07) tied his. Nilah Okon (12.22) improved her time as well. Colon-Gipson (47.08/154-05.00) and Alo (44.27m/145-03.00) resumed competition on Saturday with season bests in the discus.
Pangilinan also improved his 200m time with a 22.11.
Zoé Lamur moved up the 400m hurdles list (62.05) for the second week in a row to tie Jazmine Harper for third all-time. Reigning Big West Women's Field Athlete of the Week Chelsea Aninyei, one week removed from moving up to third all-time in the triple jump, set the Highlanders' second school record (13.39m/43-11.25) of the day.
Ma'at (14.92m/48-11.50), Andrew Robinson (14.90m/48-10.75), and Elijah Yoshinaga (14.60m/47-10.75) rewrote the triple jump season performance list on Saturday afternoon. Ma'at entered the all-time top 10 and leapfrogged to the top of the list, while Robinson and Yoshinaga also improved their season marks.
UC Riverside returns to action next weekend for the Franson Last Chance Meet at Azusa Pacific.
