Men’s Golf Through a Round at Big West Championships

LA QUINTA, Calif. - UC Riverside men's golf is through 18 holes at the Big West Championships after Sunday's opening day at the La Quinta Country Club.
Josh Hu and Minjae Park are tied for 16th after each carding a 2-over 74 in the first round, as the Highlanders as a team are in eighth just one stroke behind seventh-place Hawaii.
UCR began the day in group three and Hu started on the first hole, carding a birdie to start his three-day tournament. The junior shot for par on the remainder of the front nine and was 1-under 35 at the turn, but three bogeys on the back nine finished out his first round.
Park birdied the par-5 sixth hole and began the back nine with a birdie on 11. After struggling for a double bogey on 14, Park came back to shoot for par on the next three holes and notch his third birdie of the day on 18.
Park, Same He and Eric Cho eached recorded two birdies on the back nine on Sunday afternoon.
The Highlanders will tee off in group three on Monday's second round at 10:30 a.m.
