BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - UC Riverside softball put an official end to the biggest turnaround in program history on Saturday afternoon with a 6-2 win at CSU Bakersfield's Roadrunner Sports Complex.
The win gave UCR its first Big West sweep since 2019 and ended the season with the Highlanders winners of eight of their final 10 games.
"We left it all on the field today and came up with the big win," head coach Nikki Palmer said. "I'm so proud of this special team."
Chrys Hildebrand went 4.0 innings in her final collegiate outing, racking up seven strikeouts to break Chelse Ponce's Division I single-season strikeout record.Â
Haylee Kela went 2 for 4 with a pair of RBIs while Ally Troche and Nadia Witt put in multi-hit performances in the final outing of 2022. Troche ended her season on an eight-game hit streak and Lauryn Garewal finished her 2022 campaign with a 23-game on-base streak, while Kela's extended to 14 games.Â
UC Riverside put a run across in the second, fourth and sixth innings before exploding for a three-spot in the seventh. Witt knocked in her second run of the game with a single to left center before Kela advanced to second on a throw and brought two runs in.Â
