DAVIS, Calif. - UC Riverside track & field student-athletes Julian Read and Monea Jennings competed in the men's decathlon and women's heptathlon, respectively, over the weekend in the first action of the Big West Championships at Woody Wilson Track in Davis.

Read tied for fifth after three events at 1,934 points and finished in fifth after a day. The junior finished his decathlon with 6,005 points, well clear of ninth by a good 200 points with fifth-place finishes in the 100m, high jump and 400m.

Jennings started her day with a 15.04 in the 100mH, finishing in ninth after a day with 2,630 points. She scored a career-high 4,249 points in the heptathlon after two days of action, falling just short of scoring despite entering the weekend with no experience in any multis events except for the 100mH, which she took seventh.
