RIVERSIDE, Calif. - UC Riverside officially teed off on the new season on Monday at the Hobble Creek Classic with Tiffany Le tying for second after 36 holes in Springville, Utah.Â
As a team, UCR heads into round three tied for seventh at the Hobble Creek Golf Course.Â
After bursting onto the college golf scene last year as a true freshman, Le refused to skip a beat in to start her second year of college golf. The sophomore birdied nine of 36 holes at the season's first two rounds and started her day 2-under at the turn in round one. Le birdied four par 5s on the day.Â
Le will look to make it a second consecutive top-10 finish at a season opener after tying for eighth last fall at the NMSU Aggie Invitational.Â
Kate Villegas goes into Tuesday's final round tied for eighth with four birdies under her belt, going 1-under on 18 in round one. All five golfers in the Highlander lineup came back from round one to shoot lower scores in the second 18 holes, including Vanessa Betancourt's 76 in round two after carding a 81 in the opening round.Â
Gabi Kiger and Amanda De Jesus made their collegiate golf debuts as individuals in Utah.Â
Round three will get underway at 9:00 a.m. PT on Tuesday morning from Utah with live results available on GolfStat. Â
