Win Streak Pushes to Two with Win over UC San Diego

Presented by Altura Credit Union

RIVERSIDE, Calif. –
UC Riverside made it back-to-back victories for the second time this season with a 67-53 win over UC San Diego on Wednesday night at the SRC Arena.

The Highlanders set season highs in points (67), field goals made (25) and threes (10) in the win. RyAnne Walters started her third straight game while putting up a season-high 10 points on 4-of-9 shooting.

Defensive tenacity helped UC Riverside get out to a fast start in Wednesday's return to the SRC Arena, as the Highlanders jumped out to a 10-2 lead on a 3-for-6 clip out of the opening tip. UCR scored seven of its first 14 points on fastbreaks and 10 of those 14 off turnovers.

UC Riverside forced 11 Tritons turnovers by halftime, but not before the Highlanders notched two of their four first-half threes in the final two minutes - just in time to pour it on right before halftime. UCR ended the half just like they started, going on a 15-3 run over the final 6:34 of the half for a commanding 33-22 lead at the break.

The Highlanders, well on their way to a second straight win for the second time this year, would not let up after halftime. Julia Stenberg continued her heater from the perimeter with a three that brought the Highlanders to within two points of doubling up the Tritons on the scoreboard. The three was Stenberg's only one of the contest, but it was her third straight game in a triple in her first 20-minute outing since November.

Jordan Webster enjoyed her second 20-point game of the season - both of which have come in Big West play - thanks in part to a game-high four threes that paced UCR towards a season-high 45.5 percent three-point shooting clip. Webster, who was one of four Highlanders in double figures scoring on the night, went for 20 points against the Tritons on 7-of-14 shooting.

UC Riverside was backed into a corner by a surging Triton comeback attempt and as a result, was forced to contend for a close win for the second consecutive game. Matehya Bryant had another second half takeover, notching eight of her 10 points and five of her 10 rebounds in the second half for her fourth double double of the season and second in her last three games.

UC Riverside is back home on Saturday, January 14 with a 6:00 p.m. tipoff against UC Santa Barbara on ESPN+.
