Highlanders, CSUN Share Points in Season Finale

NORTHRIDGE, Calif. - UC Riverside played to a scoreless 0-0 draw on Thursday night at Matador Soccer Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • UC Riverside saw its first of four early shots in the second minute with Spencer Gonzales forcing an early save. Charisma Benitez followed that up with an attempt of her own in the eighth minute.
  • The Highlanders opened the second half with their foot on the pedal, earning consecutive corner kicks in the first three minutes of play. UCR fed Gonzales once more, who again tallied another shot on target early into the period.
  • Daphane Mendez landed her second and third attempts of the night in a span of three minutes. UCR earned a corner kick two minutes later in the 57th that helped formulate another shot, this one from Lavinia Vaipulu
  • Sanaa Guyness created one last chance for UC Riverside in the 89th minute but missed out of the right post with her attempt.

HIGHLANDER HIGHLIGHTS

  • UCR's back line held CSUN without a shot and to just one corner kick in the second half while generating seven shots themselves with two of those on frame. The Highlanders yielded just four shots total on the night, the fewest by a UCR opponent in 2023.
  • Seven different Highlanders laid claim to 11 shots on the night, marking the fifth match this year with at least 10 shots for UC Riverside and second in UCR's last three matches.
  • Cassia Souza earned the clean sheet in her Highlander finale and did not have to make a single save, working behind a stellar performance from the back line.
