IRVINE, Calif. - UC Riverside made the trip into another hostile environment on Saturday night at the Bren Events Center but was unable to repeat past performances in an 83-64 defeat to UC Irvine.
A track meet broke out from the opening tip as UC Irvine imposed its up tempo offense, but the Highlanders changed course to a more favorable slow pace while key threes for Flynn Cameron and Lachlan Olbrich kept UCR hanging around.
The duo from Down Under combined for 15 of UCR's first 24 points with three combined makes from downtown while Olbrich paced the Highlanders at halftime with 12 points on 5-of-8 shooting. Both sharpshooters used the perimeter to cool down a fast-paced Anteater offense at various points in the opening half.
Olbrich finished his evening with a career-high 22 points for his 15th 10-point game of the season and eighth in his last 10.
UCR's backcourt duo of Cameron and Zyon Pullin combined for 23 points on 8-of-21 shooting. Pullin grabbed five rebounds for the 11th time this season while Cameron dished out five assists.
UC Riverside is back at the SRC Arena next week, starting on Wednesday, February 15 with a 7:00 p.m. game against Long Beach State on ESPN+.
