Nadia Witt was a force at the plate in the front end of the doubleheader, going 3 for 4 with an RBI while Marissa Burk also drove a run in on a 2-for-4 outing.
Kat Montuya tied things up with an RBI single to left center that brought Witt home, but the Catamounts would retake the lead in the fourth and pour it on with three runs in the sixth.
UCR would not quit, as Burk slapped a single into center in the seventh and came home on an error to lessen the blow at 5-2.
Brooke Perez took the circle in game two and moved to a perfect 5-0 on the year after going 4.1 innings in game two. UCR immediately came alive at the plate with three runs in the first and one in the second by way of RBIs from Kat Montuya, Leah Brito and Witt.
Western Carolina clawed back with a run in the fourth and fifth, but UCR matched the Catamounts stride for stride in the bottom half of each frame to keep the gas on before Maddie Heinlin shut the door from the circle.
UC Riverside will hit the road now for a road contest at San Diego on Thursday, March 9 at 3:00 p.m. before returning home for a doubleheader with Columbia on Tuesday, March 14.
