Track & Field Spreads Top Marks Across Highly Successful Weekend

Records were meant to be broken this weekend across three meets for the Highlanders, who enjoyed success at the Stanford Invitational, Mike Fanelli Classic and Vince O'Boyle Classic.

STANFORD, Calif. - Linda Perez and Collette Lowengrub were the ultimate 1-2 punch for UC Riverside in Palo Alto on Friday. Perez was second in the 10k while Lowengrub was sixth, but both sophomores set Big West 10k records with times of 32:59.10 and 33:17.02, respectively.

Perez's time also claimed the top spot on UC Riverside's record list and set the Big West 10k record, while Lowengrub also finished under the record.

SAN FRANCISCO - The DMR was kind to the Highlanders at the Mike Fanelli Classic on Saturday on both the men's and women's side.

Sean Caster (3:05.69), Noah Murasmith (53.28), Tyler Kaan (1:55.44) and Lance Denhalter (4:08 and change) took the win in 10:03.22. On the women's side, Carolinh Calvert (3:33.91), Norma Alvarez (61.15), Riley Jones (2:21.25) and Perez (4:53 and change) set the Fanelli Track Classic meet record at 11:50.18.

Alvarez (4:35.22) and Denhalter (3:51.49) each picked up new PRs in the 1500m, while Tyler Kaan finished in 3:53.58 just off a PR. Alvarez's time was also good for a Big West qualifier.

IRVINE, Calif. - Raykiyat Olujoku went record-breaking once more in the 100m and 200m. The freshman touted an 11.70m in the 100m and a 23.57m in the 200m.

Also showing up was Shiloh Corrales-Nelson, who won the hammer throw with a season best of 54.32m. UCR's shot put crew had quite a day with new lifetime bests for Corrales-Nelson (14.75), Karyssa Owens (14.23) and Melissa Toilolo (13.59). Owens and Corrales-Nelson moved up a spot on the all-time list, while Corrales-Nelson set a new Philippines national record.

The women's 4x400m relay team took the win with a season best and Big West-leading 3:45.05 while the men dropped their season mark and took third overall with a time of 3:14.93. Michelle Algiers also won the triple jump and hit a Big West qualifier with an 11.69m.

UC Riverside will look to build off the success April 7 and 8 at the Triton Invitational as hosted by UC San Diego.
