Palmer Gets Career Win Number 200 in Rout of Saint Mary’s

RIVERSIDE, Calif. - Nikki Palmer picked up career win number 200 on Tuesday afternoon as UC Riverside skated past Saint Mary's, 9-1, at the Amy S. Harrison Softball Field.

Jackie Alday recorded her third multi-RBI game of the season and first since March 13 with immediate impact. The freshman roped an RBI single into left field to score Nadia Witt and Kat Montuya, who had put the Highlanders on the board after Saint Mary's go-ahead run in the first.

Alday, who later put the game out of reach with a two-run home run in the third, is the first Highlander freshman to record four RBI in a game since Sarah Parten on March 6, 2017.

Alday and Montuya combined to drive in seven of UCR's nine runs for the afternoon. Montuya reached on an error in the first and slapped a two-run single into left field in the fourth. Nadia Witt, who recorded just one run in the marathon series against CSUN, plated three against the Gaels on Tuesday.

Witt also went 2 for 2 at the plate with a leadoff double in the third that set up a three-run inning for UC Riverside. Rebeca Cabezas also collected a multi-hit outing, going 2 for 3 with a run.

Brooke Perez threw a complete game in the shortened run rule contest, going all five innings with a pair of strikeouts while giving up just three hits. Saint Mary's found a hole in the first inning for the opening run of the game, but Perez shut down the Gaels with 1-2-3 innings in the second and third to get into her rhythm.

UC Riverside now turns its attention to a six-game road trip, beginning this weekend at UC San Diego. First pitch of game one from La Jolla is scheduled for 5:00 p.m. on Friday, April 28 on ESPN+.
