LA JOLLA, Calif. - UC Riverside captured its first Big West series win of the season on Saturday at Triton Softball Stadium, sweeping the doubleheader 6-0 and 2-1. 

The Highlanders came out swinging in game two with three consecutive extra-base hits in the second - started by a leadoff double from Jackie Alday - that helped build a 2-0 lead through two innings. 

Alday went 2 for 8 with three runs for the weekend following a four-RBI effort in Tuesday's 9-1 win over Saint Mary's. 

Kat Montuya added on to the lead with a sacrifice fly an inning later that scored Nadia Witt. Montuya continued her success against UC San Diego in her Highlander career, having entered the weekend 2 for 4 with three runs and an RBI all-time in two game two's against the Tritons. 

Brooke Perez turned away eight of her first nine batters in game one of the doubleheader before seeing trouble with a runner on third in the third, but the freshman got out of the jam with a routine inning-ending fly ball to Lauryn Garewal in center. 

Rebeca Cabezas broke the scoring drought in game two for RBI four and five on the season with a two-run single in the fourth. UC San Diego added a run in the bottom half of the frame, but that was all the scoring for game two. 

Cabezas went 1 for 3 in the series finale while Witt went 2 for 4 and Alexis Galvan picked up her second win of the season. 

UC Riverside's road trip continues next weekend at UC Santa Barbara, with first pitch from Campus Diamond coming at 12:00 p.m. on Friday, May 5.
