UC Riverside in Prime Positioning after 36 Holes in Arizona

MARICOPA, Ariz. - UC Riverside is third on the leaderboard after 36 holes of the Wyoming Cowgirl Classic following Monday's windy first round at the Ak-Chin Southern Dunes Golf Club.Â
The Highlanders lead a tight pack of five teams separated by five strokes at the top of the leaderboard. Monday was just the fifth time in program history that UCR has shot 286 or lower in a round, and second time this season after carding a 284 in round three at The Clash at Boulder Creek.
Tiffany Le made it three tournaments in her last four with a sub-70 round after opening the tournament with a 68 (-4) in round one. Le (68-76-144) is fourth heading into Tuesday with a one-shot lead. Nicole Le (72-75-147) shot her second straight lowest round of the season to open tournament play with a 72 (E) in round one. The elder Le sister is tied for 12th, in place for her best finish of the season.Â
Vanessa Betancourt (74-77-151) enjoyed a nice bounce back from the Fresno State Classic with both Monday rounds in the 70s thanks to three birdies in each round while Mylan Hirata shot her second straight season low of 72 (E) to open the tournament.Â
UC Riverside will tee off in round three from Maricopa on Tuesday.Â
