FULLERTON, Calif. - Weekend number two of the Big West Championship from Cal State Fullerton got underway on Friday at Titan Track Complex with UC Riverside winning a trio of All-Big West nods and punching multiple finals tickets on day one.
Karyssa Owens was one of three Highlanders to earn All-Big West honors on Friday, finishing third in the women's hammer throw with a new lifetime best of 53.87m. Ashraf Abdelmagid finished third in the men's 3,000 steeple with a 9:00.92, and Linda Perez also finished third in the 10k - an event she earlier this year broke the Big West record in - in addition to advancing to the finals of the 1500 with a 4:32.51.
Plenty more Highlanders advanced to Saturday final races, starting with Lance Denhalter and Tyler Kaan in the men's 1500 while Riley Jones did so for the women with a season-best 4:37.40.Â
Monea Jennings advanced out of her heat into her first 100mH final, and Reggie Day also set a date for his first 400m final. Saniyah Starks grabbed a win in heat three of the 400m in 55.48 to advance to Saturday's final, and Andrew Jackson made it three consecutive finals appearances in the 800m. Raykiyat Olukoju also picked up a heat win, this one in the 200m in 24.03.Â
