Men’s Soccer Falls in Corvallis

CORVALLIS, Ore. - UC Riverside continued its road trip on Sunday with a 3-0 defeat to Oregon State at Lorenz Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Oregon State pressed early with two shots in the first eight minutes, including one that was blocked by UCR's back line.
  • UCR registered its first shot in the 23rd minute, an off-target attempt from Diogo Baptista. Edward Castro followed it up with another shot soon after to force the Beavers' first save of the match. 
  • Oregon State struck first in the 32nd minute following a third consecutive corner, then doubled and tripled its lead in a span of under a minute. 
  • Luka Lukic won a free kick in the 37th minute but was unable to pull back the equalizer. 
  • UC Riverside came out of halftime with urgency, as Brendan Clark forced UCR's first corner kick of the afternoon with a blocked shot that preceded another blocked shot from Lukic. Clark landed another shot on a Highlander throw in, this one off target. 
  • UCR's offense ramped up in the second half with seven shots to just two in the first half.

HIGHLANDER HIGHLIGHTS

  • Brendan Clark instilled a sense of urgency for UC Riverside out of halftime, recording four shots in the first six minutes of the second half after a quiet opening 45 minutes. Clark was an integral part of UC Riverside posting seven of its nine shots in the second half, registering five himself in Sunday's matinee in Corvallis.
