Men’s Soccer Drops 2-0 Decision at San Diego State

SAN DIEGO - UC Riverside closed out its San Diego road trip on Sunday night at the SDSU Sports Deck, falling 2-0 to San Diego State.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • UC Riverside went down a man early with a red card to Aleksandar Vukovic in the 12th minute.
  • Carlos Gonzalez dove to his left with an outstretched glove hand to deny the back post in the 19th minute. The junior made another clutch save in the first half, this one from point-blank range in the 42nd minute.
  • Armando Ibarra Jr. laid claim to both UCR shots in the first half, both coming in a span of three minutes. Ibarra threw another shot at the Aztecs from distance, but missed high in the 60th minute.
  • Gonzalez made an initial save in the 51st minute before the Aztecs cleaned up the rebound to take a 1-0 lead. SDSU appeared to double its lead in the 67th minute, but was called offside on the deflected shot. The Aztecs found their second goal in the 83rd on a ball through the midfield.
  • UCR won its first corner of the night in the 76th minute, only to see it headed away. The Highlanders won corner number two shortly after while enjoying one of their better possession spells throughout the final 15 minutes.

HIGHLANDER HIGHLIGHTS

  • Gonzalez moved into fourth in program history in career saves, now up to 160 after three against the Aztecs.
  • Ibarra led the Highlanders with four shots on the night in a career-high 77 minutes of action.
