Highlanders Hit Big West Program-Record 17 Threes in Rout of CSUN

RIVERSIDE, Calif. - A Big West program-record 17 threes led UC Riverside over CSUN on Saturday evening at the SRC Arena, 82-63.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • UC Riverside was dialed in from deep early, starting on a 5 for 6 clip with a 21-16 lead thanks to a 6-0 run. The Highlanders hit three consecutive triples early from Vladimer Salaridze, Isaiah Moses and Nate Pickens.
  • Salaridze's game-high eight points at halftime helped the Highlanders gain a 17-9 edge in bench points at the break. Moses missed a jumper in the first half, but Salaridze grabbed the offensive rebound to set up redemption for the redshirt sophomore, who gave UCR a 15-11 lead just before a media break.
  • Moses and Kyle Owens opened the second half with back-to-back triples in the midst of a 10-2 run that dated back to late in the first half.
  • Moses hit UCR's 14th three of the night with the Highlanders nursing a comfortable double-digit lead. The trey matched UC Riverside's Big West single-game total in 2020-21 - and coincidentally, UCR's total in their 2018-19 home matchup with the Matadors.
  • Moses went over 20 points for the fourth time this season following that three before sinking a pair of free throws. The Highlanders shot 51.6% in the second half and hit 12 of their 17 threes after halftime.
  • UC Riverside won the turnover battle for the seventh time in their last 10 games and grabbed at least 40 rebounds for the seventh time this season. UCR also improved to 8-0 when leading at 5:00 of the second half.

HIGHLANDER HIGHLIGHTS

  • UCR's season-high 17 threes set a new Big West single-game program record.
  • UC Riverside held CSUN to 36.7% shooting, the lowest for a Highlander opponent in Big West play this season.
  • Moses set a new career high with 30 points on 10 of 18 shooting. The Alaska native is the first Highlander since Flynn Cameron last season against UC Santa Barbara to make seven threes in a game, going 8 for 11 on Saturday.
  • Salaridze led UCR's reserves with 11 points off the bench and the Highlanders held a 26-11 edge in bench points.
  • Kaleb Smith earned his second start in three games with a steal that led to Moses' second three of the night, giving UCR a 44-30 lead. Moses dropped in seven of his eight threes in the second half.
