Highlanders Drop Contest to San Jose State

RIVERSIDE, Calif. - UC Riverside picked up its first singles win of the year, but fell 6-1 to San Jose State on Tuesday afternoon at the SRC Tennis Courts. 

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • UC Riverside dropped the doubles point with the familiar pairs of Olivia McIntosh-Adams and Crystal Kim on No. 1 and Sydney Tran and Niki Shahbazi competing on No. 2. Kamya Nair and Kei Kato teamed up for the first time this season and went unfinished on No. 3.
  • Kim won set one on No. 3 and dropped a 6-1 second set, but stormed back to win 10-3 in the third set. 
  • Maya Youssef dropped set one on No. 2 and kept fighting in two, forcing a tie break in her second straight singles match. 

HIGHLANDER HIGHLIGHTS

  • Kim picked up UCR's first win of the year with her singles win on three.

  • UC Riverside will finish out the four-match home stand on Friday, February 2 to host Long Beach State at the SRC Tennis Courts at 1:00 p.m.
