RIVERSIDE, Calif. - UC Riverside's five-game win streak came to an end on Thursday night at the SRC Arena in a 51-43 defeat to UC San Diego.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- UCR flashed its stout defense out of the gate, holding the Tritons to just 1 of 11 from the field out of the opening tip. Matehya Bryant accounted for four of the Highlanders' 11 rebounds after a quarter. Bryant and Jordan Webster each claimed six of UCR's 22 rebounds at halftime.Â
- UCR started the second half strong with back-to-back buckets from Bryant and Webster, the senior's first field goal of the night.Â
- UC Riverside continued its theme of third-quarter offensive outbursts with a 4-of-8 clip out of halftime. UCR trimmed the deficit to four following the back end of two free throws from Bryant.Â
- RyAnne Walters' back to back threes late in the third helped UCR continue to unfurl its third-quarter identity, effectively erasing a double-digit deficit for the second straight game.Â
HIGHLANDER HIGHLIGHTS
- UC Riverside pulled down a season-high 46 rebounds, the most by a Highlander team since last year's squad registered 58 in the Big West opener at Cal State Bakersfield.
- Bryant's 17 rebounds on Thursday were a new individual single-game high for UC Riverside on the season, in addition to 17 points on 6 of 14 shooting that gave her double double number four on the season. Â
