Women’s Golf Opens Spring with Victory Over UC Irvine in Dual Meet, 17-3

RIVERSIDE, Calif. - UC Riverside opened its spring 2024 campaign on Sunday at the Victoria Club in Riverside with a dual win over UC Irvine, 17-3. The non-conference Big West matchup between the local rivals was an unconventional dual match, played as a combination of best ball and head to head match play.

The dual lineup:

3 Vanessa Betancourt v. Megan Yang

4 Riley Shin v. Chanelle Hwang

5 Maleyna Gregorio v. Kiana Briggs

6 Mitzi Duarte v. Alyson Sor

7 Gabrielle Kiger v. Coco Yang

HOW IT HAPPENED

UC Riverside swept the front nine holes earning six of six points.
The Highlanders won five singles matches on the back nine, tying one and dropping just one of seven matches.

HIGHLANDER HIGHLIGHTS

Gabrielle Kiger's round against Coco Yang was the only match played as straight head-to-head match play for 18 holes, and Kiger defeated Yang four and three.
Maleyna Gregorio defeated Kiana Briggs four and three as well.
