Highlanders Rally for Thrilling 70-69 Victory Over CBU

RIVERSIDE, Calif. — Barrington Hargress scored a game-high 25 points, including the decisive free throws, to lift the UC Riverside Highlanders to a 70-69 victory over Cal Baptist University.

- The Highlanders trailed 37-30 at halftime but rallied with a 40-point second half, fueled by Hargress' offensive heroics and a dominant inside presence.
- Trailing by one with under two minutes to play, Hargress hit a clutch jumper and added a free throw to give the Highlanders a slim 70-63 lead they would not relinquish. California Baptist had a chance to win in the final seconds, but the Highlanders contested a Lancer jumper that fell short as time expired.
- Jack Whitbourn added 12 points and 13 rebounds off the bench, while Joel Armotrading chipped in 10 points and five rebounds. Isaiah Moses also added 10 points and found his teammates for five assists.
- UC Riverside dominated the paint with 42 points inside. The Highlanders also capitalized on 17 second-chance points, largely thanks to Whitbourn's work on the offensive glass.
- The Lancers couldn't maintain their early momentum as the Highlanders tightened their defense in the second half. UC Riverside forced 10 turnovers, converting them into 13 points.
- Hargress scored a season-high 25 points while also contributing three rebounds and three assists on the game.
- Jack Whitbourn secured his first career double-double as he scored 12 points and had 13 rebounds.
- The Highlanders are now 36-5 all time against their cross town rivals CBU.
- The Highlanders take on La Sierra in the SRC Arena this Thursday, November 14th with tip-off set for 7:00 p.m.
