Men's Top Five and Women's Top 10 Finishes Lead Highlanders In The Big West Championship

RIVERSIDE, Calif. – UC Riverside's men's and women's cross country teams each earned a top-10 finish at the Big West Championship on Saturday morning on the Highlanders' Ag/Ops Course.

- The UCR men's team placed sixth out of nine teams, accumulating 141 points.
- Joshua Mendoza led the way for the Highlanders, finishing fifth with a time of 23:58.9, while Ashraf Abdelmagid crossed the line at 24:05.9 for a 13th-place finish.
- The UCR women's team finished seventh out of 11 teams, ending the race with 180 points.
- Collete Lowengrub was the top finisher for the Highlanders' women, placing 10th with a time of 20:27.4.
- Joy Weber was the next Highlander to finish, coming in 39th with a time of 21:13.2.
- Mendoza's fifth-place finish (23:58.9) secured UCR's second consecutive individual top-five finish at the Big West Championships; Abdelmagid finished fourth in 2023.
- Mendoza recorded the fastest men's Big West Championship time for UCR since Chad Hall's record-setting 23:41.9 in 2011.
- Mendoza's time of 23:58.9 ranks No. 7 in UCR men's 8K history.
- Lowengrub posted UCR's fourth consecutive all-conference performance with her 10th-place finish (20:27.4), marking the second all-conference honor of her career.
- UC Riverside looks ahead to the NCAA Div. I West Regional which will be in Pullman, Washington on November 15th.
