RIVERSIDE, Calif. - The Highlanders hosted UC Davis at the SRC in a Big West match up. UCR lost its first meeting to the Aggies back in October, 3-0. Over their last five games the Highlanders were 3-2, looking to bounce back after losing at UC San Diego on Saturday. Today marked the 70th all time meeting between the schools.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Highlanders dropped the first set to the Aggies, 25-17. The Aggies and Highlanders traded points to start and UCR took an early 6-5 lead. The Aggies would tie it up at six, and the Highlanders responded to tie it at seven. Then UCD went on a 4-0 run and would not give the lead up. The Aggies out hit the Highlanders .353 to .214.
- In the second set UCR looked to bounce back. It was back and forth as neither team could gain control. With the score tied at ten the Aggies took a 12-10 lead. Both teams traded points, and the Aggies started to pull away taking a 15-11 lead. UCR would fight back, but could never get within three of the lead as UCD took the second set, 25-20.
- UCR found momentum in the third set. The Highlanders had control early in the third set leading, 13-7. The six point lead was the largest of the match for the Highlanders. The Aggies tried to get back into it, but the Highlanders held off any runs. UCR remained in control and took the third set 25-18.
- The fourth set started with both teams trading points keeping it with two. The Highlanders finally caught the Aggies and took an 11-10 lead. The two teams traded points until the game was tied at 19. The Aggies scored the next two and UCR called its final time out of the set. A quick run for the Highlanders forced the Aggies to call their final timeout. UCR tied it up at 22, but UCD was able to pull away late closing out the fourth set 25-22 and winning the match 3-1.
