RIVERSIDE, Calif. - UC Riverside picked up its first win of the 2024-25 season on Friday night at the SRC Arena with an 84-45 win over Whittier.  

HOW IT HAPPENED 

• UCR held Whittier to just 11% shooting in the first quarter while opening a 15-0 lead out of the gate. Esther Matarranz carried the heavy load in the first with eight of the Highlanders' 17 in the frame.  
• UC Riverside went 2 for 4 from distance to start the second with makes from Hannah Wickstrom and Seneca Hackley. The Highlanders shot 47% in the second.  
• UCR carried a 29-7 run into the fourth quarter after shooting a scorching 57% in the third.  
• Five Highlanders scored in double figures on the night.  

NOTABLES 

• Brad Langston picked up his first win as full-time head coach of UC Riverside.  
• Hackley and Wickstrom led the Highlanders with Wickstrom pouring in a game-high 17 points. The freshman did a bit of everything for UCR, adding five rebounds, an assist, a steal and a block.  
• Makayla Rose tied a career high with six steals while scoring 13 points and adding four rebounds and four assists.
