Highlanders Fall to CBU in Game Two

RIVERSIDE, Calif. - UC Riverside fell 12-3 to California Baptist on Friday night at the Riverside Sports Complex in game two of the Crosstown Showdown.

HOW IT HAPPENED 

  • Jake Gebb put down CBU instantly with a quick 1-2-3 top of the first. Gebb also retired the side in the fourth while stranding a runner on third.  
  • Nick Poss took the first pitch he saw into right field for a single in the fifth and advanced to second with Tyler Weaver being hit. Poss and Zachary Chamizo recorded two hits apiece in game two. 
  • UC Riverside put up all three runs in the seventh inning to cut the deficit in half with a pair of singles and a fielder's choice.  
  • Dominic Martinez extended his hit streak to a team-high five with a single in the second inning. 
  • Fareed Ahmed made his collegiate debut on the mound while Joshua Torres made his third appearance of the season, throwing 15 of his 23 pitches for strikes.  

HIGHLANDER HIGHLIGHTS 

  • Chamizo drove in his first collegiate run in the seventh with a single to right.  
  • Tyler Martinez now has three stolen bases in his last three games and four overall, and is now 4 for 4 on the season after swiping second in the third inning.
