Highlanders Secure Season Sweep of Cal State Bakersfield

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - Thursday morning at the Icardo Center turned into the fifth straight head-to-head meeting decided by single digits between UC Riverside and Cal State Bakersfield, and a three from RyAnne Walters in the final minute of regulation was the difference in a 54-48 win for UCR. 

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • UC Riverside was slow out of the gate, but responded accordingly by shooting 45% in the second quarter and outscoring the Roadrunners 17-13 in the frame. Jordan Webster scored nine of the Highlanders' 17 points on 3 of 4 shooting. 
  • UCR and CSUB were evenly matched in the first half with 12 points in the paint per side. The Highlanders went on a 9-0 run in the second quarter and Webster's three at 1:32 gave UC Riverside its first lead of the game. 
  • The Highlanders went on a 7-0 run with just over a minute left in the third quarter to close the gap. RyAnne Walters sank a pair of free throws at the 1:09 mark to keep things close heading into the final frame. 
  • UC Riverside opened the fourth quarter with a 5-0 run thanks to yet another triple from Webster, who evenly spread her game-high 24 points throughout the morning. 
  • Walters iced the game with 17 seconds left on a three to give UCR the remaining breathing room it needed for the win. 

HIGHLANDER HIGHLIGHTS

  • UC Riverside has now won seven of its last nine contests dating back to a 49-43 home win over Long Beach State on January 6. 
  • The Highlanders dominated on fast break points in the second half by an 11-3 margin. 
  • UC Riverside set a single-game season high from the foul line, going 12 of 13 from the stripe for a 92.3% clip. 
  • UCR's 11 fouls were tied for the fewest in a game this season.
