Baseball Drops Midweek Contest at San Diego State

SAN DIEGO - UC Riverside kept it close with San Diego State on Tuesday night, but fell, 5-4, at Tony Gwynn Stadium.  

HOW IT HAPPENED 

  • UCR and SDSU traded runs in the first inning. Bubba Rocha scored after Jayden Lopez reached on a passed ball to put the Highlanders up 1-0 before San Diego State responded with a home run in the bottom of the frame.  
  • Rocha led off the game with a seven-pitch walk to start the offense. 
  • UC Riverside scored two in the fourth and one in the fifth to erase a 3-1 deficit. Tyler Weaver brought Nick Poss home from first on a first pitch double to right, and Jayden Sanchez tied the game on a single that brought home Weaver.  
  • Rocha added two more runs to his season tally, going 1 for 2 on Tuesday in San Diego. 

HIGHLANDER HIGHLIGHTS 

  • Julian Orozco and Alfredo Capacete II each recorded five strikeouts in relief.  
  • Capacete went 4.0 strong innings with two hits and no runs in addition to his five Ks.
