Women’s Basketball Exits WNIT with Loss to South Dakota

VERMILLION, S.D. - UC Riverside's 2023-24 season came to a close on Friday night at the Sanford Coyote Sports Center with a 72-57 loss to South Dakota.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • First Team All-Big West selection Jordan Webster ended the first quarter in emphatic fashion with a three at the horn, capping a 55% shooting clip in the opening 10 minutes for UCR.
  • Neither team led in the first quarter by more than a single possession until Webster's quarter-ending triple. Matehya Bryant extended the lead to six fresh out of the break in between quarters with a step back jumper off a Coyote turnover.
  • The Highlanders whittled a nine-point deficit down to three at halftime with five field goals from five different players in the second quarter. UCR found most of its first half offense down low and off turnovers.
  • Webster scored 10 of her 19 points in the first half.
  • UCR went on a 5-0 run late in the third to cut the deficit to just a field goal with a three from Jordyn Marshall.

HIGHLANDER HIGHLIGHTS

  • Webster entered the night just two threes shy of entering the program's single-season top 10, hitting her quota on Friday night in Vermillion with three.
  • Bryant was two rebounds shy of her seventh double double of the season.

UP NEXT

  • UC Riverside concludes the 2023-24 season at 18-14 with a 12-game turnaround from last season, the biggest in program history.
