Highlanders Sweep Doubleheader, Pick up Fifth Straight Win

RIVERSIDE, Calif. - UC Riverside swept Saturday's doubleheader against Holy Cross with wins of 12-11 and 11-4, now holding a five-game win streak for the first time since 2010.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Highlanders were forced to play catchup early with a quick 5-0 Holy Cross lead. UCR got two runs back in the third, however, also putting runners on second and third in the fourth.
  • UC Riverside saved the bulk of its offense in game one for the final two innings, where the Highlanders scored 10 runs – four in the eighth and sixth in the ninth – to complete the comeback after being down 11-2 after seven.
  • Bubba Rocha went 4 for 4 in game one with two runs while Jayden Sanchez went 2 for 4 with a pair of runs. Sean McLeod also contributed four RBIs in game one.
  • Tyler Gebb improved to 2-1 on the season in a game two win for UCR, racking up five strikeouts to help the Highlanders win their fifth straight.
  • Both teams traded multi-run first innings before the Highlanders raced ahead with a four-run third on a sacrifice groundout and a three-run homer from Zach Tallerman.
  • Holy Cross responded with two runs in the fourth, but Gebb retired five of seven as UCR held the Crusaders scoreless the rest of the way.

HIGHLANDER HIGHLIGHTS

  • UCR's first win of the day featured two home runs, emphasized by a grand slam from Sean McLeod that cut the deficit to 11-6.
  • Tallerman went 3 for 5 in game two with two runs and four RBIs.

UP NEXT

  • UCR concludes the series on Sunday, March 10 with a 12:00 p.m. first pitch against the Crusaders.
