Highlanders Split Friday Doubleheader at CSUN

NORTHRIDGE, Calif. – UC Riverside (13-24, 7-10 Big West) split Friday's doubleheader at CSUN with a 7-5 win and 1-0 loss at Matador Diamond. 

HOW IT HAPPENED 

  • Kat Montuya got the sparks flying early for UCR with a solo home run in the top of the first inning of game one. The Highlanders made it 2-0 in the second on Nadia Witt's RBI single up the middle.  
  • UC Riverside busted the game open with five runs in the fourth inning on five hits.  
  • Jackie Alday went 2 for 4 in game one with a pair of RBIs and Maddie Heinlin earned her second save of the year after throwing three scoreless innings while allowing just four hits.  
  • Witt and Gigi Araki each laid claim to a hit in UCR's 1-0 game two defeat. The Highlanders broke up CSUN's no-hitter in the fourth on Witt's leadoff single. 
  • Araki kicked off the sixth with a double to right and advanced to third on Witt's groundout but could not plate the tying run. 

HIGHLANDER HIGHLIGHTS 

  • Witt went 3 for 3 in game one with three RBIs and a run to pace the Highlander offense. 
  • UCR put up its fourth five-run frame of the season in game one and second in its last three games.
