RIVERSIDE, Calif. - UC Riverside (15-26, 9-12 Big West) finished off another Big West weekend series on Sunday afternoon at Amy S. Harrison Field with a 2-1 defeat to UC San Diego. 

HOW IT HAPPENED 

• Maddie Heinlin pulled UCR's defense off the field unscathed in the first and second innings after giving up a double in the first but holding her own in the circle on both occasions. 
• Gigi Araki was the Highlanders' first runner in scoring position on the afternoon, reaching second on a wild pitch in the second inning. 
• Jackie Alday roped a triple to center field in the fourth and while UCR couldn't capitalize, the Highlanders found redemption at the plate two frames later.  
• Nadia Witt led off the sixth with a successful bunt back to the pitcher. Witt then moved over to second on a sac bunt and came home on an RBI double from Kat Montuya to put UCR within a run.  

HIGHLANDER HIGHLIGHTS 

• Montuya knocked in her second RBI of the series and has now driven in a run in all but two Big West series this season.
