SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - Two Highlander home runs kept the Gauchos in reach, but UC Riverside dropped their season finale against University of California, Santa Barbara (UCSB), 6-3.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Gauchos struck first with two runs in the bottom of the first inning for an early lead.
- UC Riverside tied it up with a pair of runs in the fifth and sixth inning. Andrew Rivas drove in the first run with an RBI single, and Cole Koniarsky hit a solo shot over the fence to tie it up.
- A four-run seventh inning from the Gauchos pulled UCSB into a 6-2 lead.
- Zach Tallerman homered in the top of the ninth hoping to get something going for the Highlanders in the final frame, but UCSB ultimately secured the win.
HIGHLANDER HIGHLIGHTS
- Tallerman was a perfect two for two with one run and one RBI from his home run.
- The Highlander pitching staff put up six scoreless frames against UCSB's nationally ranked offense.
