Highlanders Turn the Tables in Dramatic Comeback Win over LMU

RIVERSIDE, Calif. - UC Riverside (15-28, 5-16 Big West) picked up its third straight win on Monday night at the Riverside Sports Complex with a dramatic come-from-behind 12-10 win over LMU.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • UCR broke up the shutout in the third inning on Cole Koniarsky's single into right after the Lions stormed out of the gate with seven runs in the first inning.
  • LMU put two more runs on the board in the fourth, but the Highlanders punched back with a seven-spot of their own in the sixth inning on five hits.
  • Rudy Rodriguez IV got the sixth-inning onslaught going with a single through the right side and scored on Nick Poss' two-run RBI single the opposite way.
  • Poss connected on the first of three straight RBI singles for UC Riverside, who in the blink of an eye saw an eight-run deficit trimmed to just three.
  • UCR received a little help on its next scoring spree, leveraging a pair of wild pitches to score runs number seven and eight on the night.
  • The Highlanders pushed ahead for good with four runs in the eighth and tied the game on Jayden Lopez's single before taking the lead for good on an Andrew Rivas walk.

HIGHLANDER HIGHLIGHTS

  • UCR has now won three straight games for the second time this season and first time since winning five consecutive in March.
  • UC Riverside erased a deficit of at least eight runs for the second time this season, first doing so in a 12-11 win over Holy Cross on March 9.
  • Alfredo Capacete earned his third save of the season while Joshua Torres picked up his first win.
