RIVERSIDE, Calif. (September 1, 2024) - UC Riverside picked up its first home win of 2024 on Sunday morning at the UC Riverside Soccer Stadium with a 1-0 win over UNLV.  

HOW IT HAPPENED 

• UCR recorded the morning's first two shots within 15 minutes, both originating from set pieces. The Highlander back line then withstood a barrage of offense from UNLV, denying six shots in a five-minute span.  
• Nikki Velasco entered the match in the 23rd minute and scored just four minutes later with a long-range dart into the upper left corner.  
• Both sides traded early scoring chances in the second half as Spenser Gonzales went for goal in the 58th minute off a corner kick. The Highlanders were saved by the left post in the 73rd minute at the other end of the pitch. 

NOTABLES 

• Both Highlander wins this season have been 1-0 decisions on goals scored by freshmen.  
• Allee Grashoff made a career-high seven saves against the Runnin' Rebels while picking up her second career clean sheet.  
• Gerardo Hidalgo notched his first home win as interim head coach.
