DAVIS, Calif.- UC Riverside, coming off its win over CSU Bakersfield traveled up north to take on the UC Davis Aggies. Tonight was the first meeting of the season for these two teams, with UCR winning the last match up 50-41 at the SRC. This time however, the Aggies prevailed, 52-41.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Shelley Duchemin got things started for the Highlanders in the first hitting her first jumper of the game and Seneca Hackley followed quickly with a layup. The Aggies would come down and get on the board on a Tova Sabel three pointer. Duchemin  followed with a layup giving the Highlanders a 6-3 lead. UCR's lead would push to 8-3 on a jumper by Duchemin. Both teams traded baskets and UCD took a one point lead at the end of one.
  • The second started with the Highlanders turning over the Aggies and Makayla Minshall burring a three pointer giving UCR a two point lead. The defense would get another stop and Duchemin would get another bucket giving UCR a 19-15 lead. The Aggies would come back with two quick baskets of their own to tie the game at 19. Again the Highlanders would look to Duchemin and she'd answer again, this time with turn-around jumper giving UCR the lead again. The offenses traded baskets, but UCR took a two point halftime lead, 27-25. Duchemin lead the Highlanders with 12 points at the end of the first half on 6-8 shooting.
  • It was a tough start for the Highlanders in the third quarter, as they only scored two points in the first four minutes. The Aggies took a three point lead, but that was erased on a three pointer by Maya Chocano. UCD answered quickly and take a two point lead after a hook shot by Megan Norris. Trailing by two the Highlanders looked again to their defense by forcing another turnover and tied the game on a Hackley layup. Coming out of the media timeout, Hackley would hit a jumper giving UCR the lead, but the Aggies answered on a jumper of their own. UCR's offense stalled not scoring a point in the last four plus minutes of the quarter and trailed at the end of three, 38-35.
  • The fourth started with a 6-0 Aggies run, that Chocano snapped on a layup. Esther Matarranz followed up with a free throw, cutting the UCD lead to 42-38. UCD scored quickly on a layup then the Highlanders answered back with a three pointer by Kaylani Polk. The Aggies answered with a jumper and taking a 46-41 lead.
