
UC Riverside opens Golf Iconic Classic with steady play in Las Cruces

LAS CRUCES, N.M. — The Highlanders opened the Golf Iconic Classic with a strong team effort Monday, carding a 1-over-par 289 to sit tied for 11th after the first round at New Mexico State Golf Course.
The Highlanders were led by Ivy Kim, who fired a 2-under 70 to finish the day tied for 13th. Kim's round featured consistent ball-striking and a smooth finish to stay under par on the 6,420-yard layout.
Janna Andaya followed closely with a 1-under 71, placing her in a tie for 24th, while Mitzi Duarte added an even-par 72 to give UC Riverside three golfers at par or better. Maleyna Gregorio contributed a 76, and Riley Shin rounded out the lineup with an 81.
UC Riverside's opening 289 marked one of its best rounds of the fall and put the Highlanders within striking distance of the top 10 heading into Tuesday's second round.
